Personally I prefer gaffers tape it when can find it. A it's matt-black, and B it sticks much better.

I've got this silicon based tape that fuses to itself, can withstand over 400 degrees fehrenheit, won't crack in subzero temps and non conductive to several hundred volts. I use it to wrap tool handles.
