It has been six days since Steve Fossett's plane disappeared somewhere in Nevada. Even though hope is diminishing that the 63-year-old multimillionaire adventurer will be found alive, there are no plans to scale back the search.
says Civil Air Patrol Major Cynthia Ryan. "I think that you can look at a long-term search on this for at least two weeks. A search of this magnitude typically goes on for that long. We don't always have a famous person in the airplane and this much media here."The Nevada Air National Guard said it is not ruling out any area without checking it thoroughly
---Is it just me or does anyone else just find this whole story as odd? Granted, or so I have heard, this guy is a big time survivalist, but wouldn't they had found his plane wreckage by now?---

the dessert is pretty damn big, and if he didn't file a flight plan it would be pretty hard. needle in a haystack sorta.

I am sort of surprised it has got as much attention as it has. He should have filed a flight plan.
yeah, I cant remember the reason why he wasnt required to file a plan either...
certain size craft are able to fly without filing, particularly if they are going betweenvprivate strips
yes, I just learned that this AM Pete. As soon as I posted my last response I started doing some digging....that is werid though, at least I think so. Its just like letting a aircraft go to do its own thing wherever it wants....I really do hope this is one of those stories where Fossett just went into super badass survivor mode and is out there doing well..
