Your “Top Five” most disliked music ever!

Well we all have seen and heard the ubiquitous question “Who are your top five most favorite music artists of all time?” and Personally I find them a little hard to answer. I mean for fuck sake I have some where around 35 gigs of music on my computer, does that strike you as the type of guy who has a short list of favorites? I might be able to give a top five for each genre. But the whole concept of these questions are so redundant in them self. Wouldn’t it simply be easier to simply establish the music some one doesn’t like first. Then you could end your conversation on a positive note by reviewing those bands you do like. Heck wouldn’t it be great if there was an online music source that built your profile off not only your likes but your dislikes from the start? Well now I am rambling.

So what are your top five most despised musicians of all time?

Here are mine in order:

1. Pink Floyd
2. Alanis Morissette
3. Guns and Roses
4. James Taylor
5. Back Street Boys

Whoops! no sooner did I publish this post and leave the house in my car, but what did I hear on the radio...?

Lets Add one more and make it a simple half dozen.

6. Cher!

Oh oh oh, and maybe Kate Bush, but Im not sold on her yet. She may make the final cut.

A lot of arena rock out of the 70s and early 80s, like REO Speedwagon, Asia, Yes, Foghat, Bad Finger and so on....I guess you could say thats just a whole genre I dislike rather than one individual though....

Peter Gabriel, hes in my top 5 of most hated musicians. So, thats 3, maybe 4 so far.....

this is not an easy task Scott.

Hmmm, Eric I am kind of surprised by Peter Gabriel. I would have though you were more bent against bands like Erasure, and Morrisey.

Oh and Mariah Carey....Ewwwwwwwwwwww
now I must go wash my hands

Mariah Carey, I must go bathe myself now.

Nah, Morrisey and Erasure I would consider more of a genre, like Electronica, bordering on Industrial in some aspects, neither of which I have time for anymore. From New Order all the way down to Ministry...nope, no thanks, not for me anymore.

Yeah, Mr. Gabriel just rubs me the wrong way.

This could end up being fairly interesting.
Lets start with:
I HATE christmas music, I have been listening to this crap way too much, and every time I change it, someone walks in. and of course I want people to be in the buying mood when thet come in.... I did find a pandora station that at least plays modern (read punkish) versions of the classics.
That being said,
Artists I hate, defined by I can't think of a song by them I would ever want to hear:
1- Melissa Ethredge (and anyone like her)
2- Morissy (and any project he has ever afiliated himself with)
3-Any one named Wahlberg (see #2 above)
4- Abba (disco as a genre pretty much sucked)
5- Green Day (and most of the rest of the pop-punk bands)

The thing some of the bands you fellows mentioned, is that they each have a gem or 2 in their collection that have a time and place. IMO

yeah, I was gonna mention bands like Green Day for example, but to me they fall into yet another "genre" of artists that would indeed be labeled as pop punk, a group of artists that I don't think show a wink of acknowledgment towards what allowed them to become what they now are, i.e. tipping their hats to the punk Gods of yesteryear.

I think I could list more genres I hate as opposed to bands if I tried.

This is a good topic Scott, thanks.

oh and I have to throw the genre of Doo Wop out there as one of my faves right now, Ive been like a freak lately, searching for obscure Doo Wop. Its really a pain, lots of web ordering and lots of big bills adding up fast. Now that Den has died, I think Im gonna have to put all that stuff on the side for a while...but yeah, Doo Wop.

And one more I couldn't pass up....Bill Hayley and His Comets. A group that lived a short span along the true rock n roll time line and a band that was also way under rated. Bill was always in the shadow of guys like Buddy Holly (who also friggin rocks) and of course someone IMO who was terribly over rather Elvis.
