Jumping ship

---I have a question for anyone that knows the answer. Im looking in your direction Mark M. and Mike M.

Once elected to office, can a politician change political parties?---

I'm not Mark or Mike. but I'm pretty sure it happens. people change parties in office. I think that we supposed to vote for people not parties

I kinda thought the same thing, but Im not 100% sure. Thanks for the input PJ. I just think it would be pretty interesting if a president did it.

"Jumpin' Jim" Jeffords and Rodney Alexander were 2 instances I remember. I think Jim Jeffords switched parties(Rep. to Dem) after being elected. Alexander switched during his Congressional election run.

Pete, you're right about the party thing. George Washington warned about political parties, saying they were divisive. They are hard to get away from, it's a convenient way to lump politicians with similar agendas into easily recognizable categories.
