In the News in Tippy’s absence

ABC News- Some Chicago bikers got some extra fresh air Saturday night. About 200 nude riders gathered in Wicker Park before they started the ten mile "World Naked Bike Ride." They rode in the buff to protest oil dependency and car culture.

Chicago police report no arrests.

Not everyone was naked -- some bikers wore costumes -- but there was enough skin showing to draw attention to the cause and gain supporters.

"I was surprised and then I learned what it was about, I support it. We gotta do something and even that small amount was enough," said Art Auterson, Saw Naked Riders.

In Mexico City, naked bikers rode through the streets demanding respect from motorists. One rider says drivers can be aggressive and they ignore bikers, but the riders also say they were helping the city's smog problem.

I am on the Chi Critical mass list-serv. So I knew about this ride, unfortuantly it did not pass my restaurant, and not being all that comfortable with my own nakeditity I did not attend.
Do a web search and you will find that this is a pretty big deal.

Do they also want to protest the trucks that use oil to transport and deliver parts to the bike stores they purchase their bikes and bike parts from? Or that deliver food to the grocery stores they shop at? I realize this is nit-picky, but they are still part of the "problem", they're just removed by a degree.

Martin, I read this great article about 5 years ago about titanium bike frames. The article basically said that you would need to ride your bike exclusively for five life times just to equal the amount energy spent forging titanium.

I don't think that anyone ziping around on a titanium bike gives a rat's ass about oil/gas.
but that could be a generalization, mabye
