In the news.....

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- A federal indictment against seven men revealed Friday details of what the government said was a plan to "kill all the devils we can" by blowing up Chicago's Sears Tower.

The "jihad" was intended to be "as good or greater than 9/11," beginning with destruction of the 110-story tower and FBI buildings, according to court documents obtained Friday by CNN.

U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, in a news conference Friday, described the men as examples of "homegrown terrorists" who "may prove to be as dangerous as groups like al Qaeda" and who have come "to view their home country as the enemy."

Named in the grand jury indictment is Narseal Batiste, who allegedly told an informant -- posing as a member of al Qaeda -- that he was organizing an Islamic army to wage a jihad in the United States.

The indictment offered no indication that the suspects were actually in contact with any al Qaeda members.

Gonzales said there never was an immediate threat to the alleged targets.

It was horrid enough to see the 2 towers fall, but could you imagine the sears tower being destroyed too?

It's not a pleasant thing to imagine, but it doesn't sound like these guys were anywhere near carrying out such an attack. Take some deep breaths, and don't panic...

From an MSNBC article:

Managers of the Sears Tower, the nation’s tallest building, said in a statement they speak regularly with the FBI and local law enforcement about terror threats and that Thursday “was no exception.”

“Law enforcement continues to tell us that they have never found evidence of a credible terrorism threat against Sears Tower that has gone beyond criminal discussions,” the statement said.

The guys who were caught sound like they had delusions of grandeur, and the informant probably exploited that & got them to say some irresponsible things. I have a nagging suspicion that the Justice Dept. might be full of s--- on this one.

Here is more to back up Mark's statement....

Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales said the men had posed no actual danger because their plot had been caught in "its earliest stages."

"Because of the fine work by law enforcement, these men were unable to advance their deadly plot beyond the initial planning stage," he said.

can I just mention that it doesn't take a planning mastermind to pack a truck full of fertalizer and whatever else, and park it on lower whacker in the middle of the day. a dumb / poor terrorist may not be as much of a threat as a smart / well funded terrorist, but he's still dangerous.

Did any of you see the photos of the accused men? Interesting how that is not as big a story, that they are home grown, and not Arab.
