Truth or Trash?

Bob Lonski forwarded this to me, I cut and pasted it here from the e-mail, if its all true, it's interesting, if it's crap it's shows a very determined bull shit artist....
you be the judge..:

"This is pretty interesting....

Read all of this one, it is interesting!! Read down to the very bottom highlighted in green, you don't want to miss this! VERY INTERESTING-
1. The Garden of Eden was in Iraq.
2. Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq, was the cradle of civilization!
3. Noah built the ark in Iraq.
4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq
5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern Iraq!
6. Isaac's wife Rebekah is from Nahor, which is in Iraq!
7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq.
8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq.
9. Assyria, which is in Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel.
10. Amos cried out in Iraq!
11. Babylon, which is in Iraq, destroyed Jerusalem.
12. Daniel was! in the lion's den in Iraq!
13. The three Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (Jesus had been in Iraq also as the fourth person in the Fiery furnace!)
14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon saw the "writing on the wall" in Iraq.
15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq.
16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq.
17. The wise men were from Iraq
18. Peter preached in Iraq.
19. The "Empire of Man" described in Revelation is called Babylon, which was a city in Iraq!
And you have probably seen this one. Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But do you know which nation is second? It is Iraq! However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible The names used in the Bible are Babylon, Land of Shinar, and Mesopotamia . The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The name Iraq, means country with deep roots. Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible. No other nation, except Israel, has more history and prophecy associated it than Iraq.
And also,
This is something to think about! Since America is typically represented by an eagle. Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages... The following verse is from the Koran, (the Islamic Bible) Koran (9:11 ) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace. (Note the verse number!) Hmmmmmm?!

I BETTER NOT HEAR OF ANYONE BREAKING THIS ONE OR SEE DELETED This is a ribbon for soldiers fighting in Iraq. Pass it on to everyone and pray. Something good will happen to you tonight at 11:11 PM. This is not a jokeone will either call you or will talk to you online and say that they love you. Do not break this chain. Send this to 13 people in the next 15 minutes. Go."

So I lead a more or less religion free life, i kinda have my own brand of spirituality, but that being said, stuff like this is fairly interesting reading and thinking and discussion material. what do y'all think. Truth or trash? the "chain letter of luck" bit at the end gets me thinking BS, propaganda... kinda.

The author might need a historical geography lesson and some honesty concerning intentions with this sort of document. From my recollection ancient Mesopotamia covered an area mostly in modern day Iraq, but also part of Iran, and Kuwait.

Is Bob afraid to post with us?

Oh and before I forget, if you were to believe in the statements of this document, I suspect you would also have to believe the Bible as the absolute source of historical truth.

Qur'an Chapter 9: al-Tawba (repentance)

Verse 11 reads:

But even so, if they repent, establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity, then they are your brethren in Faith: thus do we explain our revelations in detail, for those who understand.

...Nothing like what is claimed in the chain letter. The above verse explains how Muslims should view non-believers ("idolaters" in my translation) as "brethren in Faith" if they lead a sufficiently righteous way of life.

Nowhere in the Qur'an is there any similiar passage to the one in the chain letter, and the word "eagle" does not appear once in the entire text.

As for chain letters, I always assume crap. At best, they contain a few inaccuracies; at worst they are complete fabrications. Chain letters propagate virally and never seem to die out, so the crap keeps getting spread around without end. The letters always make a plea for the reader to pass it on. I make the opposite plea -- when you see one of these, please, please, throw it away.

To quote the genius that is Penn&Teller "It is fair to say that the Bible contains equal parts: fact, history, and pizza." The bible, written by multiple authors over hundreds of years and then the parts that were included voted on by committee, Council of Nicea circa 4th century I belive, should not be a basis for historical fact. There is, however, cross cultural references to the great flood. Both the Bible and The Epic of Gilgamesh reference a great flood. In Gilgamesh the setting was Ur, which is southern Iraq. The Bible version is more of a parable of loss, redemption, and startin over. Furthermore, we can't forget that the region has seen multiple cultures and religions. The library at Nineveh was indeed in that region, but under non-Arabic, Assyrians who were Zoroastianists. Longer story long, this is bullshit and taken completely out of context. As far as Qu'ran references I have to defer to Mark. I've been drinking and it's time for bed.

Sorry, Assyrians were not Zoroastrianists, I meant Persians, who eventually lived in that region a few hundred years later and still have a strong cultural identity in Iran.
