I think it's great that people realize that our society can be pretty fucked up and that our government has done some awful things. However, I don't buy into the idea that the new American birthright should be guilt and self-loathing. This country has accomplished a lot of good things. We're successful, we have a lot of resources, most of us have a lifestyle that the rest of the world can't match. Some of that is due to manipulation and abuse, but a lot of that is due to good old fashioned hard work.
Why are we ignorant of other cultures? Because we don't live in a geographical region with a dozen countries crammed into the area of our one country,i.e. Europe. Just wantd to add my 2 cents.

The thing is as far as I know none of us chose where and when to be born. So is our perspective one that either recognizes our own good fortune and does not take for granted the backs it was delivered upon, or one that would have us just take what we need with out remorse. Is it not a fair question to ask, are we really delivering good old fashioned hard work, or are we as over paid and lazy as the media would have us believe? How does one know they are working hard, when the whole experience can be so different from person to person, culture to culture, it is an awful big equation? That same whole equation is difficult for me because I never feel like I have worked hard enough... and admittedly that is only the tip of a rather nasty emotional ice burg in Scott’s world.

I just read an article that sais american on an average take LESS vacation time then practicly everyone else worldwide. paricularly the EU.
I mentioned it to my brother and his response was "why is the EU the standard?"

MY FAVORITE HABIT IS CRITIZING. I OF COURSE TRY TO SPREAD IT AROUND TO INCLUDE MYSELF. IF ONLY I REALLY KNEW THE ANSWERS FOR OUR PROBLEMS INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON THE CAUSES. GUESS I'M JUST ANOTHER UGLY AMERICAN HYPOCRITE.
